EPW - Charles Taylor & Son, London, lever fusee for American market, 56mm, massive 14-16K gold (tested, with fade of 18K solution on stone and no fade of 14K solution) original consular HC with exceptional early locomotive detail to front, case marked for retailer Shurly & Co. of Buffalo, New York, fixed gold cuvette, "Railway Timekeeper" marked white enamel SS dial, KWKS, fully capped lever escapement, 19J, gilt mvt with gilt locking dust-cap, s#17865 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 127.8 dwt (198.7 g). A very attractive American market piece highlighted by its terrific early locomotive image to case front. Our consignor notes that the massive case alone is approximately 76 dwt in weight.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, barrel bridge with numerous small peck marks around and above the serial number, some mild light spotting and micro-fine scratches elsewhere; dial with scattered light hls, small nick under bezel at 10; excellent hands; case shows very light wear, two dings to left perimeter of front, one ding to right perimeter of front, good engraving detail, some play to mvt hinge when opening; tight bow thinned at top; good glass crystal.
